There’s a lot to think about when it comes to hosting a child’s party, and food is at the top of the list. When you’re hosting a theme party, getting creative with the menu is a great way to tie in the theme and our friends at PassSmart have some great ideas to get you started.
Tasty traffic lights:
They’re probably the last thing you’d ever think about eating, but traffic lights make surprisingly good cakes. Bake three separate sponges of roughly the same size and height; one red, one orange and one green, using natural food coloring. Once they’ve cooled down, cut them into rows of cubes and stick one of each color together, making a rectangle. You can use buttercream or chocolate icing to stick them together, and they’ll inject instant color to your table.
Strawberry lace wheels:
Most kids love sweet snacks and these strawberry laces are bound to be a hit! They’re simple, quick, easy to make and they fit in perfectly with your car-theme. Simply twist three laces round together into a wheel and tie them together. You can make the middle of the wheel by crossing more laces over and tying them in the middle.
You can also do this with licorice too, and it will bring out a great red and black racing color scheme.
A kids party wouldn’t be complete without sandwiches, and there are ways to make them a bit more exciting. Try cutting them out into rectangles and using cocktail sticks to attach cucumber wheels on the side. Simple, and you’ve got yourself a sandwich car! Make sure you remember to remove the cocktail sticks before serving though!
Make your own pizza:
If there’s one things kids love more than getting their hands dirty, it’s pizza. So why not combine the two and let them make their own? Set them the challenge of decorating their pizza, creating the image of a car on top, using the ingredients. Get some bowls of chopped mushrooms, peppers, ham, sweetcorn and any other toppings they might use and set them to work.
We can’t promise they’ll all end up looking like cars, but it’ll certainly keep them entertained!
Most importantly of all…..
Don’t forget the cake! You might want to get creative and design your own car shaped cake, and there are plenty of car moulds around to help you do this. If not, there are lots of car design cakes and decorations which you can buy in stores. You could even get a photo of your little one in their favourite car printed on the front! A quick search online should help you find a local company which do this.
