Fun Easy Recipes For Kids recently had the pleasure of reviewing a Make Your Own Chocolate Kit by Verve. Find out how you can win your own kit (or choose from three others) at the end of my review.
Verve Inc, created after a visit to Northern Guatemala, is a woman-owned, fair trade certified business. Their mission is to create environmentally and socially responsible products. I personally admire companies that incorporate environmental and social awareness into their business model and it’s companies like Verve, that deserve our business and support. Along with their candy making kits, they also create Glee Gum, a sustainably harvested chewing gum.
One of the many cool things about this company is their partnership with Trees For The Future. For each box of Glee Gum that is purchased and recorded on their site, they will plant a tree in your name. How awesome is that!!
Their site is full of interactive, educational and fun information for families and kids. Check out the photo journal of how their gum is made, from start to finish. There’s also lesson plans, fun facts and the history of each of their products designed to educate and inspire.
And if that wasn’t enough – their kit makes delicious chocolate too!
The kit, which makes 8 oz. of dark chocolate, came with everything pictured above;
- organic cocoa butter
- cocoa powder
- confectioners sugar
- starter crystals
- temperature indicator
- paper candy liners
- story of chocolate, instructions and coupons
The instructions were very easy to understand and the whole process took about 30 minutes, including time for photo taking. After melting the cocoa butter, we stirred in the sugar and cocoa powder. Using the thermometer strip, we stirred until it reached 94 degrees. After that we added the starter crystals, poured the chocolate into the paper liners and refrigerated for 15 minutes.
While we waited, I will admit there was a little power struggle over who got to finger-lick the bowl, but my husband & I pulled rank and our daughters lost.
No, I’m joking.
Kind of. ;-)
The chocolate was delicious and the whole process was entertaining and fun! I’m already planning on buying another one for our homeschool group.
You can use the store locator on their site to find out where to buy locally, or you can order directly from their website. We’d like to give you the chance to try your own kit for free and one lucky winner will be able to choose a chocolate, chewing gum or gummie make-it-yourself kit. Continental United States only.
Using the rafflecopter below, you’ll have five different ways to enter.
