Over the last year, my family has been buying more and more organic foods, and it looks like we’re not alone. Last year, the organic industry grew by over 9%. The organic food and beverage sector was valued at $29.22 billion and outpaced the sales increase of conventionally produced food. This is all the more reason why I was excited to review products from Newman’s Own Organics.
Newman’s Own Organics are certified organic and their ingredients are grown on farms that have not used artificial fertilizers or pesticides for three years or more. Awesome!
One of the first items we tried was the dried fruit. We’re not huge fans of dried fruit so we were interested to see what if we would like it. My younger daughter (14) liked the Berry Blend and said she could taste all the different fruits and it was a good mix of flavors. She said it would make a nice, quick snack. She offered some to her friend, who was over visiting, but she refused, thinking she wouldn’t like it. After a little while she changed her mind and said it was so good she was going to ask her mom to buy it!
We added the cranberry dried fruit to pancakes one morning for breakfast and it was delicious. My older daughter (17) loved the cranberry and said the cranberry taste was perfect and it was very moist. My husband, who doesn’t care for dried fruit, thought it was okay. He said it was better than others he tasted but he’s still not a fan of dried fruit.
Next was the O’s … Newman O’s (two kinds) and Ginger O’s.
My 14 year old loved the Ginger O’s and was surprised because she didn’t care for other ginger cookies she previously tried. She tried them with hot chocolate and said they ‘dunked’ great! The ginger taste was just right, not over-powering. The cookie was crunchy, the same texture as an Oreo and doesn’t fall apart when you bite it.
My older daughter enjoyed the mint Newman O’s – she loved the taste, said they were creamy and the mint was just ‘minty’ enough.
We also sampled their mints. The tins they come in are really are cool! We’ll definitely hold onto to them to reuse when we’re done with the mints. My husband tried the peppermint and spearmint and liked them both. He said they were both pretty strong, which was good.
My younger daughter liked the cinnamon – it’s one of her favorite flavors. She said it was not spicy but strong enough for cinnamon lovers. The mints lasted a long time and made her breathe smell nice. :-) She also liked the spearmint and said it left a nice taste in her mouth. My older daughter also liked the spearmint and said it was very cooling in her mouth and she loved the tins!
One of the most anticipated items we sampled was the licorice twists. My husband and younger daughter are huge Twizzler fans so their opinion meant a lot to this review.
My daughter said her favorite was the cherry and she liked the sugar topping. She said it tasted just like cherry, and didn’t taste fake or artificial. She had to stop herself from eating the whole bag – lol. My older daughter liked the strawberry best, but she enjoyed the mango and said it wasn’t something she would have bought on her own, and she was suprised she liked it. My husband enjoyed them and liked the flavor, but did not care for the sugar topping.
This review is in two parts (part two coming soon!) and they’ll even be a chance for you to enter to win your own Newman’s Own Organics goodies! In the meanwhile, check their website for coupons and recipes.
